In order to work around this error message:

2. Go to Project > Properties
3. Change the 'TargetServerVersion' from SQL Server 2016 to SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012 or 2014 and click Apply then click OK.
4. The Next Step is to click 'Preview' in the report for a copy of the RDL to be saved to the BINDEBUG Folder. Please note, you MUST click Preview for this to work correctly, just clicking save will not apply changes to the DEBUG Folder.
