How to Fix the Omnipresent “CRM Auto Reloading” Issue

Post Author: Joe D365 |

When working with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and using Internet Explorer 9 or later, you may run into the situation where all of your browser windows and tabs will turn blank. At the bottom of each page and tab, you will see the following message:

"A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab."

Shortly afterwards, all of your windows and tabs will have been reloaded, and they will all be at the CRM home page. For example, any advanced finds, any dialog boxes, etc., will have been reverted back to the CRM home page. You may find this happening at intermittent times, depending on your use of CRM. Specifically, you may be run into this issue when closing a CRM window before it has fully loaded.

So How do you go About Fixing This?

Trust me, we feel your pain. Few things are worse than misbehaving internet windows. This happens by design, and the culprit is how Internet Explorer 9, 10, and 11 behave with CRM when it recognizes an application hang. And the application hang occurs when you try to close a CRM window while it is in the middle of loading its scripts.

This issue is documented in Microsoft KB article 2698959, which is a feature called "Hang Resistance." Fortunately, it is easy to turn off, so you never have to see those page reloads again. From our experience, we highly recommend turning this off, as it seems to only cause end user problems.

So how do you turn it off? Simple: with a quick addition to your workstation registry. If you aren't familiar nor comfortable with editing the registry, we recommend requesting the assistance of an IT person. (more information about registry editing can be seen here: http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/136393)

Adding the Registry Value.

First, click on start, and then start typing "regedit."
