Opting In/Out of the Unified Client Interface

Post Author: Joe D365 |

Hopefully, you’ve already heard that in December 2020, Microsoft will be deprecating the classic web interface, thereby forcing clients to move to the Unified Client Interface (UCI). While there are many benefits associated with moving to this new interface, there are also a few things of which to be aware. Microsoft has communicated additional details around this change via their blog, including the transition from the classic web interface and the benefits of the UCI.

If you haven’t already done so, we strongly encourage you to read those blogposts (or other materials related to UCI and transitioning away from the classic web interface), as you want to clearly understand the change that’s coming. Your organization will need to be fully transitioned by December 2020 – and ensuring your Dynamics 365 environment is prepared, designed correctly, and fully tested through a quality assurance process could take 6+ months. In today’s blogpost, we’re outlining the steps required to approve or reschedule your conversion to the UCI, as well as introducing a new offering within our PowerSuccess support program designed to fully manage the transition for you.

Approve/Reschedule

To approve or adjust your transition date, start by logging into Unified Interface scheduling portal with your tenant username and password. Right away, you will see the Permissions requested screen that applies to the Run One UI Application. Select .

Second, you will need to validate your Profile, which displays information Microsoft has on file for you, including to which Tenant you’re mapped. If necessary, update your information and click . If no changes are needed, simply click .

Once you’ve updated your profile, the My Environments screen will display all available environments in your tenant.

Select each environment that will be transitioned within your organization. Note that a Target Date will already be set. As shown in the screenshot below, you have two options here: either click Transition Date> to confirm the Target Date will work, in which case you’re all set for the change, or click . If you opt for the latter, you’ll need to enter additional information in three required fields:

  • Select your new Preferred Date from the list of available dates.
  • Select a Reason for the change request:
    • Blocking Issue Found
    • Planning and Testing in Progress
    • Date Conflict with Business
    • Awaiting Add-on Solution
    • Other
  • Provide Additional Justification.

Once you’re done entering your information, Microsoft will review your request and either approve or deny it. If approved by Microsoft, you’ll need to click to confirm. Once you’ve approved it, your organization is all set for the transition.

Managing the Transition

Once your transition is scheduled and approved, it’s now time to start making all the necessary configuration changes to ensure your model driven apps behave and work appropriately in the new interface. While changing from the classic web interface to the UCI is just a matter of flipping a switch, there is so much more involved in terms of ensuring your Dynamics 365 environment is prepared and designed correctly for the new interface. Doing this properly and efficiently requires a full quality assurance process that could take 6+ months to complete. In other words, don’t put off getting started!

The good news is that PowerObjects can manage the transition for you. As part of our new PowerTransition support program, we will make all required configuration changes and fully test everything through our robust quality assurance process. If your organization would benefit from a dedicated resource who will support you throughout the transition, please check out our new fixed-fee offering: https://powerobjects.com/support/powertransition/. PowerTransition ensures a successful rollout of all your model driven apps – and much more.
