New PowerSMS feature for Dynamics 365 Marketing

Post Author: Pratiksha Badgujar and Maggie Webb |

In today’s post, we discuss how to leverage PowerSMS to create a Custom Channel Tile for D365 Marketing. Enjoy!

We are excited to release as a new feature of PowerSMS one of our most upvoted ideas in the PowerObjects Ideas Forum. What is this feature? We created a custom channel for PowerSMS that can be leveraged in Dynamics 365 Marketing. This feature will help users to send and track SMS messages (delivered or failed) using the Customer Journey in D365 for Marketing.

How do I get started with this new feature?

Prerequisites:

  • To enjoy this feature, you will need to install or upgrade to PowerSMS version 4.4.0.0 or above. You can find this verion on our website here.
  • You will also need a Dynamics for Marketing License

How to send an outgoing SMS message using the Custom Channel for PowerSMS:

1. Navigate to the marketing app in D365

2. Create a Customer Journey to send SMS as follows:

  • Create a New Customer Journey by clicking on “Customer journeys” under the marketing execution tab on the left-hand side. Then click on “New.”

You will be prompted by the below, which you can skip:

3. Select the SMS Channel as follows:

  • Once you’ve created a new customer journey, click on the + button to create a new tile, and search for “custom channel” and click on “save.”

Once you search for and select “custom channel,” click on “choose a channel,” and you will see the customer channel dropdown appear on the right-hand side. Here, you can select the PowerSMS custom channel.

Click on search bar to either search for existing SMS template or create a new one. To create a new template, click on +New SMS Message.

Switch the form to “PowerSMS Marketing Template,” name your template, populate the other required information. Then Save and close.

From here, you can also add an If/Then condition to track Failed/Delivered messages. To do this, you will need to add a new tile, and search for the If/Then condition:

Then, you can adjust the condition on the right-hand side:

Then you can add new tiles to set what happens next. For example, if the SMS message failed to send, you could just send an email message.

Once you have completed setting up your customer journey, you can Validate (check for errors) and go live.

A live Customer Journey will look as follows:

We hope this new PowerSMS feature allows you to leverage Dynamics 365 Marketing and to complete your customer journey.
